About Me:I'm a graduate student studying International Criminal Law and first started writing for King's News almost 4 years ago! My hobbies include reading, travelling and charity work. I cover many categories but my favourite articles to write are about mysteries of the ancient world, interesting places to visit, the Italian language and animals!
One of my favourite things to drink this summer has to be detox water: fresh, fruity cold water which is perfect for staying cool in the sun. Also, detox water has multiple health benefits which include clearer skin, healthier organs and a full body detox based on the ingredients used!
My standard detox water is composed of cucumbers (which keep the drink fresh), lemons, lime and a series of red berries which include blueberries and of course strawberries. Alongside detox water, I find acai berry juice and apple and elderflower berry juice ideal for summer.
One of the greatest advantages of detox water is that there are no strict rules, no narrow instructions, no routine rather it is entirely up to you what you’d like to put in your drink! It’s the perfect opportunity to get creative and, if you’re as fussy as me, you can pick and choose which fruit you like!
Below is a list of just a few examples of detox water and the benefits of each fruit used to get you thinking – once you’ve made your own comment below on what you had and send us photos of your feel-good summer drink!
What to do:
Slice fruit and place in a jug leaving it half full. Fill the rest of the jug with water and leave to set for a few hours; for best results, leave overnight so the flavours can mix in fully.
Try using sparkling water instead of normal water sometimes and serve it champagne glasses for that special effect!
Cucumber and Watermelon detox drink:
Cucumber is full of nutrients such as vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, iron, vitamin K, and potassium and is perfect for a good detox as it prevents water retention whilst providing anti-inflammatory properties. Watermelon also helps flush toxins out of the body as it contains citrulline, an amino acid that can help the liver and kidneys filter. It can also get rid of ammonia, a by-product of protein that can damage our cells. Why not add some lemons that have cleansing properties and cinnamon to curb your appetite and avoid too much snacking (which I am very guilty of!). This drink is sure to give you an energy boost and a detox!
Strawberry and Kiwi detox:
The extra fruity detox is made up of two of my favourite fruits: strawberries and kiwis. All you need to do is slice a handful of strawberries and a few kiwis, pour into a large jug with 2litres of water and leave to set in the fridge. Kiwi is full of vitamin A and vitamin E whilst strawberries contain anti-aging properties, help to fight carcinogens and are great for your skin! Try adding more fruit – apples, which are great for fibre - or some mint for a completely different taste.
Here is a list of ingredients you can use to help you out, choose a few that you like and think will work well together and try it out for yourself!
