How to make beautiful roses out of egg cartons...

Why throw away empty egg cartons when they can be used to make colourful roses; a great and very cheap present for anyone!

You will need:

An empty 12 egg carton

Paint of the colour of your choice

Superglue /Glue gun

1)The first step is to cut out the egg cups in twos, as two egg cups will create one rose. It is best to cut them two at a time so that you are able to use the rest of the carton if need be.

2)Then you will need to tear away the carton so that you are left with separate egg cups, with neat rounded edges.

3)Make four tears down the egg cup, so that four petals are made. Do the same with the other egg cup, and then glue them one on top of the other so that the petals are overlapping at different points and are not parallel to the ones underneath.

4)Then tear a long strip from the middle of the egg carton, which you will wrap into a circle from the short edge into a shape which will look like the centre of the rose. In the shape of an X, place some glue at one end and glue it to the centre of the petals you have made.

5)Then you can paint the rose in any colour! I would recommend using a light pink acrylic, and then using red for the tips of the petals. You can also use the remainder of the egg carton to tear into the shape of leaves. You can paint them green and glue them to the bottom of the roses and there you go! Repeat this 6 times, and you will have 6 lovely roses which you can scatter around the house, or give as a gift! Additionally, you can add as many layers as you like to your roses, to make them as big as you wish! (refer to IMAGE 2). And do not worry if your roses look a little messy - you can go over them and cut the petals into neater shapes of the same size at the end!

It is also possible to make roses out of a toilet role tube – which I would love to try next!

Lesson: before you throw away boxes, tins, cartons etc. try and be creative as you can make all sorts of recycled crafts! –Cheap, easy and just as beautiful!
